Default Just got hosed...

Well, I went in for my tranny flush (2004 S60 2.5T,5 speed auto, 65k miles), I was quoted over the phone the flush would cost $175. When I got to the dealership this morning, I was told the tranny only uses synthetic fluid and the flush was now going to cost me $369! I referenced all the discussions on the "tranny thread" here, but to no avail. I asked to see the bottle of "Volvo" tranny fluid and nowhere on there did it say Synthetic, I told the service manager that the fluid specified by Volvo was JWS 3309, he said "never heard of it". Well, to make a long story short, I spent the money cause I feel I really had no choice, I am taking the car on a 7500 mile trip and am leaving this week, no time to do it myself. Learned a lesson though...next time I will be doing it myself. I was also "advised" to do a computer software upgrade (tcm upgrade) and that was going to be another cool hundy. Ouch.

As I was sitting in the lobby waiting for my car to get finished, I was talking with a nice lady about her Volvo...she had her X90 in for routine checkup and maintenance....the dealership charged her $120 to change out her rear wiper blade and quoted her a price of $1500 to have her brakes done!!! I gave her this website and ipd's website address to help her out in the future.

After this was all said and done, I was advised by the mechanic that my top "torque arm bushing" or "upper motor mount" was broken. They wanted to help me out and fix it for another $250. I took one look at that piece and said no thanks, I'll try to figure it out by myself. The part I was told would be $75 and rest of that $175 would be labor. It honestly doesnt look all that difficult to replace. :-(

I drove out of that parking lot like I was in a indy race.
Lesson learned. Big time.

Dustin

its a shame there are dealers like that out there.. my local dealer did 3 hours of work looking for an electrical problem with the brakes i accidentally caused with my stereo and only charged me $150... i buy all my parts and oil filters from them as well because my dealer is pretty friendly.. sorry to hear about your butt reaming.. oh yea my upper motor mount has been broke for 20,000 miles.. it is an easy fix but really if your not neutral bombing it its probably not going to cause any issues..

D. Thanks for taking one for the team. You just helped me make up my mind. I was going to schedule my 02 S60 T5 (with 90K miles) tranny flush with the dealer this week but now I will do it myself. I just have to find that JWS 3309 fluid.
