Default K&N and Boost question

Hey, Im John and I have a 2002 Volvo s60 2.4T. I have two quick questions that are bugging me. First about K&N filters. A lot of places sell them for volvo and i was thinking of buying one but i have heard rumors about the oil in the filters can be bad for the turbo. Is this True????

My next questions is something i have been searching for a while. I was thinking about turning the boost up a few knotches. I want to know exactly how to do this because I can never seem to get a clear answer. And is it really worth turning up the boost on this volvo.

PLease HELP!!!

thanks a lot,

john

1. To answer your questions about k&N filters. Yes the oil can be a problem. However the only way it will be a problem is if the owner over oil's the filter after cleaning the filter. So don't over oil the filter after cleaning. You will be fine.

2. To answer your questions about uping the boost. Some will say sell it and get the "R" version. I say up your boost on the LPT. I did to my LPT. But you cannot use a MBC (Manual Boost Controller). ME7 Vovlo's don't like MBC's. The best way to up your boost is by getting an ECU upgrade. This is also the safest way to up your boost.

I think the oil from the K&N isn't the greatest for the mass meter as well. I think the are some great foam filters that don't have any oil in them.

I have had issues with the oil from the K&N’s messing up the mass air sensor on two of my cars, and those things aren’t cheep.

S70driver, What is a safe boost level for the S60 2.4t? I’m looking at chipping my car soon.

Thanks

I would say 12-15 PSI max.

Probably 5-10PSI. But I bet 5-7PSI.
