Knocking in right front wheel well

Knocking in right front wheel well
I own a 2001 S60 2.4T. It has 85,000 miles on it. I recently took the car in to the shop to have the pads replaced and the rotors turned.
About the time that needed to be done... I noticed a knocking noise that became faster as I increased speed... and ceased when I applied pressure to the brakes. The noise was coming from the right front wheel. Before the brakes were done the mechanic thought that one of the pads might have come loose. After the pads were replaced the car continued to knock... increasing the knocks with speed and ceasing with brake application.
The mechanic determined that the bushings in the control arms were worn and needed to be replaced. After they replaced them the car STILL knocks in the same fasion... but only about 40% of the time instead of all the time.
I am replacing the shocks and struts soon... as well as the front spring seat on the driver's side. The car needs an alignment and new tires... but I hesitate to do anything other than the shocks & struts until I get this knocking issue rectified.
The cv boot is in tact and the noise is only occasional... so I don't think its the cv joint.
Any guesses?

RE: Knocking in right front wheel well
There is only a few things that will usually cause the noise like that.
1.Sway bar links
2.Spring seat
3.Strut (usually can be duplicated but bouncing the car easily)
Also will stop at times when hitting the brakes.
Control arm bushings usually wont make a noise like that.
Deep would be like a Clunk pretty loud.
Hollow would be more like a clicking noise.

RE: Knocking in right front wheel well
Well... I just installed the OEM Sachs shocks and struts... and put a set of Yokohama AVID V4S tires on it... then had it aligned... and I thought that took care of the problem...
...but 24 hours later... its back. Started after I made a right turn down a hill. I have noticed it SOMETIMES starts after a turn.
You said sway bar links...

... is this part you would go with?

RE: Knocking in right front wheel well
I replaced the links with oem's and now it is still knocking!
I HAVE noticed that it gets louder when I turn the wheels right (and the noise is coming from the right wheel well).
Bad bearing hub? http://volvospeed.com/Repair/FWDbearingHub.php
Again, the noise stops as soon as I begin to apply the brakes ... could it be something as simply as a warped rotor?
