Default need a lil help here

ok so the two pics attached tell a lil of a story, just bought this car used, 2001 s60 2.4t, noticed a "rattle" so to speak on the front pass side. the one pic shows rubbing, the other looks like a gouge on the lower control arm... wondering if anyone else has seen something like this on thier s60, at this point im heavily considering strut, spring, strut mount and spring cap and possible lower control arm ball joint. if anyone has any input please lend me help on thoughts.

the rattle could be a bunch of things (if it happens while driving straight), sway bar link, strut mount bearing or ball joint/tierod, loose brake anti-rattle clip

you can rule out the ball joint/tierod by jacking the front up so the wheel is in the air and kicking the wheel from the front and side and check for play (twist left right to check tie rod play).. you can rule out the sway bar link by taking off the wheel pushing up on the sway bar and check for play.

you can know if its the brake anti-rattle clip if the noise goes away when you brake. it can be removed and bent so it fits a little more tighter.

for the strut mount bearing its a little more difficult to check, but if the other parts seem tight then this is probably the source, mine was making a noise when going over small bumps..

these cars are know for the wheel rubbing (the gouge on the control arm is new to me but probably happened at full-lock) mine does it even after replacing the struts. im using stock wheels and tire size too..

I just try to avoid going full-lock, but I think replacing the little plastic bump stop on the control arm might help?! I can't be bothered to try it, but maybe it will help in your case.

this was helpful, i wasnt aware of the strut mount bearing, and im almost sure thats what it is, i have already ruled out most of the other things mentioned. The noise comes from hard right turning and bumps, so im just gonna do some PM and do strut, and everything on the way up. its my wifes car now so ill let her know about going full turn on the wheel. Thanks again!
