New S60 T5 Owner in NY
Hey, I've posted on here recently. Today I picked up a black S60 T5 with the blonde leather with only 16k on it. I got it for a STEAL ($17k). It's automatic, which makes me sad, but it has the geartronic shifting so it's not so bad. I barely got to test it out before the snowstorm hit, but this baby rips!!!
My only question is: Is there a way to be able to hear the turbo more? It's pretty quiet, and I love that noise. How well do Blow off Valves work on these cars? Do they just make them run rich at the moment?

Glad to see you in a Volvo. They do not have blow off valves. Only way to hear that turbo is to take out the stock air box and install an aftermarket filter cone. Enjoy the car.
For what it's worth, the turbo is control by a electronic valve. Once the pressure is nearing max and other basic conditions are met, it will not exceed the point to need a blow off valve.

The T-5 actually has whats known as a by-pass recirculation valve. Instead of the air being dumped overboard with a typical BOV, the recirculation valve opens and allows compressed air after the compressor to be re-directed back the the compressor inlet. Without this valve, the pressures would spike in the intake manifold and probably cause damage to the turbo's compressor. You can get higher quality by-pass valves that offer a more distinct sound, but i wouldnt go with a blow off valve (would probably run rich between shifts and possibly stall).
