Default NO LOW BEAMS

I looked and looked through here, but nobody seems to have THIS problem. I have absolutely no low beams at all, everything else works fine, in fact, my yellow/orange (I call them parking lights) lights are on all the time when the car is running, my high beams work when I click the stalk just fine, but low beams NEVER work. When we started having this problem, I could have sworn the car was off, keys out, lights off yet the "parking lights" were still on, when we go in the car the next morning, the low beams didnt work. I dont get a readout of "dipped buld failure", but I read up on that as well. Here's ALL I've done:

Checked the "shunt resistor" ... changed those out - nothing
Checked ALL the fuses - nothing
Changed the low beams out - TWICE - nothing
Checked the light switch to see if it was still working - works just fine

Still, no low beams!!!! I went to the Volvo Dealership here with NO HELP AT ALL - THESE BOZOS HAD NO IDEA WHAT A "RESISTOR/SHUNT" WAS UNTIL I PULLED THE PART AND WE LOOKED UP THE PART NUMBER ON THEIR COMPUTER - and to top that, they want $95 JUST TO LOOK AT THE CAR. I've called Volvo customer car - that's like calling a third grader for medical advice - GARBAGE!!!!

ANY help needed as we cannot drive the car at night since the low beams dont work, we cant sell the POS since the low beams dont work, we cant even get it inspected since the low beams dont work.

Is there a relay or fuse that I'm missing???

I just find it odd that all the lights work with the exception of the low beams...PLEASE HELP!!!

Well owning a Volvo isn't cheap I will tell you that. And $95 may not be typical hourly labor rate but if you want to get to the bottom of it either...

1. Your going to take it back to that dealership and let them look at it. Find another dealership near by and have them look at it.

2. Go to another trusted mech and have them look at it.

If you cannot figure the problem out yourself then you going to have to have it looked at by either one of my two options above.

And your positive that the switch is in the fully upright position? All the way turned right as it will go.

Yep...turned all the way right!! Only one Volvo dealership in town - they own the market, I'm sure there's GOTTA be someone who's had this happen, when I did a search, there were a lot of folks who had this problem, just nobody posted a solution ... so I'm hoping to find one here

Here is a few diagrams of the system.
The legend seems to be missing from the diagram.
Maybe you can figure out some of the things on there.
Hope this helps.

Tech....YOU ROCK!!!!!

For everyone reading here's what's the root of all evil ... it's not the shunt/resistor ... it's the relay in CM17 that was bad, probably a $5 or $6 part from volvo (possibly even AutoZone) that the MORONS at Duplesis Volvo had no idea what or how to fix - all they cared about was the $95 charge to "look at the car"

Tech .... again my man, if you were here, I'd buy you a CASE or two of beer, all I can offer is my thanks and apprciation!!!!

Yes sir!!!! $14 from Volvo and up and running again! Hard to guess what Volvo would have charged to fix it....I did get in a few choice words explaining how the EXACT description I gave to TWO shop techs was given to a complete stranger on a website who didnt have the car in front of him and his diagnosis was 1000 times more helpful than the "bring it in, we'll charge you $90 to look at it" crap I received at the dealership. These are also the same people that wanted to charge us $800 to reset the "check engine" light after it came after we replaced the radio ..... Duplesis Volvo in Baton Rouge...I wish I had stock in that company..they are ripping people off like crazy for they "service" they claim is the best ....

A $14 part....free access to this site.....tech's GREAT advice beats "we'll look at it for $90" ANY DAY!!!

Now if I could only sell this damn thing .........
