Default noise when starting in gear from neutral

My 01 S60 is making a weird dragging noise when I slip the clutch into 1st gear and also into reverse, like something is dragging. I've checked and the undercarriage and nothing seems wrong? The noise either goes away or is not noticeable at speed.

Could this simply be the clutch wearing out? I had a so called mechanic check it out and they told me that it might be the front brake springs. How can this be making noise if I'm not engaging the brakes when I move forward of backwards?

Then, they told me that it might be the suspension but we won't know until we replace the rotors, pads and brake springs.

Any ideas?
