Default Please help

Our cluster was replaced last summer in a Volvo s60 and today while driving, the AC wouldn't turn on or would blast heat then the panel died about 20 min later after flashing a 'brake system failure, please safely pull over' message popped up. The car still drove but the entire instrument panel died. It was obviously due to over heating as it cooled down and will show the dash again. What could have caused this to occur? Did the cluster really blow in less than a year or could this be a thermostat or the compressor going out? We are stranded trying to get to SD, CA so all info helps
