Bought '07 V50 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I experienced absolutely no steering assist while backing up. Strugled to turn steering clockwise, shifted to D and strugled to turn steering counter-clockwise. Then in the midst of muscleling the steering wheel the power-assist returned [and so far no re-currance]. Anybody have any ideas? I'm fearful the assist will go out again and perhaps become worse. Thanks!!

 

It's an electric power steering pump - should take 1 or 2 seconds (normally) to wake up. My 2015 xc70 would always take 1 or 2 seconds to work. My new 2022 Genesis gv70 takes a second or two for the steering to work. So - check your fluid level and hope!
