Default Question on brake rotors

I'm researching new pads for a 2007 S60 2.5T AWD. The OEM pads really dust up the wheels. I know, I know, "just clean them." I do. Every week. I'm just looking to cut down a bit on the dust as it has already eaten the finish off the wheels. This was a dealer demo and apparently, they don't know what a carwash is.....[sm=chairshot.gif]

Anyway, I was looking at replacement ceramic pads and there is a set for the 11" rotors and one for the 12" rotors. Is the 12" rotor an upgrade on the "R" model or do the brakes get upgraded with the "performance handling package"? I can't find this info on the Volvo site or Edmunds.

Does anyone know?

Default RE: Question on brake rotors

U can get ceramic pads but let me warn u most of them I see will make brake noise and in worst case warp rotors. U can upgrade to R rotors if u upgrade the calipers and also rims size with odd offset will have to be used... not to mention original spare will not be able to work anymore since with "R" brakes they do require odd looking spare tire to clear calipers. Try driving your car till brake warmed up(NOT SCORCHING HOT) then spray "CASTRO SUPERCLEAN" and wait 2 min or sothen wash it off with pressure washer. That is so far the milest and the laziest way that I've seen to wash off brake dust other than using wheel acid. In any way that u are trying to upgrade brakes, it's going to be real expansive. BTW even "R" brakes are pretty dirty as I've seen since they replaced the "original 04 first generations high performance brake pads" into quieter ones due to customers are complaning about brake noise. I hope that helps

Hmmmm.... Maybe it's time to switch back to Porsches! [sm=smiley20.gif]

Thanks for the info! Looks like I'm going to have to do some more research. I put ceramics on my Titan and they are miles above the OEM semi-met pads in both stopping and lack of dust. And those rotors are solid. The s-m's ate the rotors within 25000 miles and I had them turned for the new pads. I'll have to monitor them and see how they work with the ceramics. So far, 2000 miles and no issues. But I'll keep you informed.
