Questions About Possible S60 Purchase
Heya folks. I registered here to ask some questions about a Volvo S60 which I'm looking at buying.
It's a 2001 S60 T5 with an auto transmission. Sticker says it has about 98K miles on it.
I'm going to take it on a test drive this evening.
I have a few questions:
1. Are there any easy things to take a look at myself when I see it tonight? Certain things that may present problems that would be easy for me to see? I would call my car mechanic knowledge "beginner-level." The largest under-hood project I have undertaken is replacing an alternator on an '01 civic.
2. Are there any glaring issues with this car in this year, or at this mileage that I should be aware of before I make the purchase?
3. If I choose to take it to a mechanic to get it checked, what should I have him focus on? I saw the thread on the timing belt, and no matter what I'll have the belt, pulley and tension arm checked ASAP.
4. Any thoughts on whether this car in this year and with this type of mileage can be a solid purchase for a long-term daily driver?
Thanks a lot for any input you can help me with.
Hope everyone is having a great Friday.

Heya! Can't help you out much, but I'm pretty sure that the 100k service is -expensive- (another chap had one done and it cost him $2700ish), so ask when the timing was done, etc... and take it to a Volvo Dealer, pay the $100 for their inspection and see what they say. Yes, it'll cost you a few bux to have a volvo mechanic look at it, but it can save you good $ in the long run.
