Default Rear strut removal of 2006 S60

How difficult is it? Is there a site I can go to? In terms of mileage, when do you change the front shock absorber and rear strut last. Mine has 118K miles. I feel that both need replacement already. My wife also drive 2006 S60 with 58K miles and suspension is still tight. I can feel the difference.

Thanks
Miles

Can I remove it and putting a new one without compressing the spring?

No need to remove spring if you are not replacing it. It was simple straight forward change of shock absorber. One nut on the top and another at the bottom. After
replacement, the ride is like new. BTW sway bar link is still in good shape so I did not
replace it.

I'm glancing under my wife's 08 S60 assuming it has the same rear suspension as your 06. How does the shock come out? Did you take the bolt out at top and bottom and slide the shock through the hole at bottom of A-arm? Is the front basically the same as rear?

Not positive if 06 and 08 have same suspension configuration but I would like to believe it is the same. Yes, remove 1st the top bolt 19mm using torx (#5 or #6)
& then bottom 15mm and slide out the shock. Need to jack up the car a bit higher so
you can easily slide the shock. Wondering how many miles your wife's 08 has?
Mine has 118K. Mine are both bad left and right. One has lost the pressure
while the other has zero pressure at all. My sway bar link still in very good shape.
Next job will be front shock when weather warm a little bit.

Wife's 08 has 83k on it. We are getting ready to do timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, plugs, etc. I drain and refill the transmission fluid with 3309 every other oil change so it stays fresh. I've heard the shocks will need replacing around 100k and I can tell the car has more body roll and doesn't absorb impacts like it used to. Car runs great and has no problems.

Timing belt and water pump were replaced on mine at 105K (Volvo recommends at this mileage). S plugs and transmission fluid change were done at 60K so mine is due
maybe springtime for another plugs and t. fluid change.
