Default Reduced Performance

Hey all, I have a HUGE issue. I am not sure whether it is time to cut my losses or what.

2001 S60 Base sedan 5 speed. Clutch went, it actually turned out to be the slave cylinder. A friend owns a "buy here, pay here" lot. I was considering junking the car because I got a quote of 1600 dollars to fix the clutch and the car isn't worth that much AND that wasn't all that was wrong with it.

It did, however, run PERFECTLY. I got the parts for the clutch, and he was going to charge me 200 dollars labor to have his mechanic do it. So, I bought the lower control arms, cause I had bad bushings, and complete strut assmeblies. Figured do it all at once.

He charged me 500 dollars service, which I thought was great. But told me the car would be ready later that day, it was still running a little rough.

Well, it actually shakes the car it runs so rough, and the reduced performance light is on. He has kind of given up. It has been 5 weks now. he wants to send it to a Volvo dealer to have it looked at.

I can't afford that. It's the reason I took it to him in the first place. But I don't want to junk a car I just put 500 dollars in service and almost a thousand in parts into. I also would like to not go all A**hole on him and lose a friendship.

He has replaced the MAF sensor. I don't know what else.

Any suggestions. PLEASE.

Was it running good or bad before the MAF was swapped out? Not all after market MAFs are Volvo friendly. That said, when mechanical work is done, its quite possible a vacuum line/intake tubing or electrical connects can be accidentally wacked - and the CEL codes can help point to possible causes.
