Default Replacing the crankshaft

Hello,

In continuation from a prior thread...

https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...signal-107200/

I'm in the process of rebuilding the engine, and need advice on which parts I need to purchase:
  1. The cylinder head was serviced at a machine shop and is ready to re-install.
  2. The crankshaft needs to be replaced. I picked one up at the salvage yard (same year/engine code).
  3. The crankshaft has been cleaned and polished - I was advised that that everything looked good and that it won't need oversized bearings
  4. With the new (used) crankshaft, will I need to replace the main and rod bearings?
Since the crankshaft is one of the most involved (and absurd) parts to replace, I'm planning on replacing the following:
  1. Piston rings.
  2. Rod bearings
  3. Main bearings
  4. Front and rear mail seals.
  5. Oil sump gaskets.
  6. Oil cooler gasket.
  7. Oil pump gaskets.
  8. Flywheel & clutch, clutch slave cylinder.
I don't know if the main bolts need to be replaced with this as well.

What are your thoughts? Am I overthinking this job? Should I do any additional work while I have the opportunity?

did you start your disassembly yet? If not, if you plan on reusing parts, make sure you mark where they came from. I would probably replace the main bolts - not sure if they are torque to yield or not but in the scheme of things, its a minor cost.

Yes, I would have replaced the stripped gear, fixed the head, put a new timing belt on (or reused the old one if relatively new) and driven away happy. The gear is not going to come loose/strip again once you have a nut holding it down. Yes there was wear visible on your old crank, but with some lock tight and a new nut would have been fine.

You are spending close to the value of the car on repairs - it does not make economic sense. (yes I know you got this and that used and your time is free, but it is still a 19 year old s60 non turbo)
