Reset check engine light - how?

2001 2.4T

How can I clear the check engine light? car was repaired but I think the old codes are still active.

I use an OBD II reader that linked to software on a laptop that I use to clear codes. Im assuming dealerships can clear the codes but Im not sure about places like your local Autozone.
