Default S60 01 How to change oil

Hi all,

Just assuming servicing responsibilities on this vehicle.

Searched and could not find the answer to this simple question.

What are the steps to change oil and oil filter? I know when I jack it up I will find the drain plug, but I am not sure where the filter (cartridge I believe) is.

Also, I see a few stickys but is there a central location for answers to commonly asked questions that a newbie should go to?

Thanks

Have you checked Google and/or Youtube? The filter can NOT hide far.

You'll see the filter. Passenger front of the engine. You should buy the tool to remove it, using channel locks can crack the housing.

Default Oil Filter Removing Adapter - 2008 S60?

Does anyone know what size of the oil filter removing adapter for the 2008 S60 (2.5T)? Look at the video, it seems impossible to remove the oil filter without having a right size of removing adapter. Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving!

Its hard believe you would rather wait 3 weeks for someone to serve you an answer on a spoon that can be found with a three second eBay search for Volvo oil filter tool :-)

Ouch! it's hurt. I hope you did not mean this Volvo forum is suck, eBay stores are better. I thought forum is a place to share knowledge and help each other no matter what :-)

I'm just saying- if its something easy to look up, you can help yourself you know. A quick search and you could have had the tool on your doorstep two weeks ago instead of waiting for someone to do it for you.

If you haven't looked it up as yet the size is 86mm / 16 flutes.
Some available are 87mm and still work however the fit is not quite as snug to the housing.
Many sources on ebay. Mine came from UK to NZ in 5 days by post.

Hello, is the 86 mm the same size for a 2013 S60 T5 ? Also I bought a fluid evacuator last year and it is so much better than climbing under the car, especially in the NE winter. The key is to get the engine oil warm. 80 seconds and the evacuator pulls all the oil out in a nice neat container. I recommend one. Thanks for the help, Kid

Sorry but I am not sure.
I have seen somewhere? another Volvo oil filter wrench that did have a lot less flutes and quite likely is for more recent model Volvo's.
Does the evacuator go down the oil dipstick. i.e. plastic tube?
My only thought about those is, will the buildup of fine debris / metal particles get adequately removed from the oil pan that way?
The drain plugs also attract metal filings magnetically. Otherwise they must make it a very convenient and less messy job.

DiffLock,

Yes the tube goes through the dipstick tube. I usually run the engine until hot, and think most fine metal would is suspended in the oil. After break in any large filings would be an indicator of a serious problem, I would think.

Actually there is a large nut on top of the filter housing that I think is a 36 or 37 mm.

I'm sure someone will spot this post and reply. So far I love this car. It is very comfortable, stylish and fun to drive. Am concerned about the reliability but time will tell. Thanks for the reply. Kid
