Just bought my first volvo. what a awsome car. 2003 volvo s60 2.5t awd. maybe someone can answer. can you hear the turbo when driving. the car drives smooth but i hear a little extra while driving. It doesn't sound like something is broke. It's my first turbo so any comment will be helpfull.

 

hey abercrombie9701, great choice btw. Really nice car. You can generally notice the slight spooling noise of the turbo while its producing boost. The 2.5T isa low pressure turbo so it wont be dramatic. If there is another sound that you hear it would help to be more specific with your post. How many miles, did you buy it privately or from a volvo dealership, what is the specific sound you hear, and when are you hearing it (under idle conditions or cruising speed), is it when the road is smooth or rough. The more details the quicker and better someone can respond.

Also, if it helps any, I sometimes use the Troubleshooting guide at AutoZone.com when I dont feel comfortable posting a question or I would have a hard time explaining the symptoms. I hope this helps you some.

whistle,spooling noise. S60 T5 turbo. 130Kmiles. I was having a similar noise until recently it changed pitch & the car started blowing blue/gray smoke out the exhaust. So it is either a clogged PCV system, or blown turbo. How do I check the PCV system & vent box system for clogs?

Pull the intake manifold, then what? where do I find a PCV system diagram?

if u hear excessive noise from driver seat check if your steering shaft boot (in driver footwell around brake and accelerator pedal area see if that is loose.. ) I have seen a few one loose causing engine/turbo noise gets into the interior of vehicle hope that helps.
