Default S60 2002 Front Control Arm (posted 2-month ago)

I have a crack in my bushing that needs to be replaced. A Volve dealer is telling me that I need to replace the entire arm..that you can not just replace the bushing. There is no damage to the arm. Thoughts??

Hairline cracks on rubber bushings are not uncommon. Unless you're experiencing handling problem, I would leave them alone. Save your $.

The bushing should be able to replace, but you need a hydraulic press. However, if the bushing is of "permanent-fit (which I doubt)", then you may need to replace the entire arm (which I doubt). See if S60 experts can help you.

The dealers go extra miles to find negligible problems and make them sound like your car would explode if you didn't replace this & that for $2,000. Ignore their nonsense.

you CAN replace just the bushings on these cars.. I did it on BOTH of my front control arms on the s80..
That said, I wouldn't do it just for a crack on the bushing.. Additionally, I wouldn't do ANY of that sort of work at the dealer.. Find a good Volvo specialist in town or even an average mechanic with knowledge of these cars..

Its a bit of work as the old bushings are a bi*ch to get out, but the new ones are easy to press in with large press (doesnt necessarily have to be hydraulic)..
