S60 blowing smoke!
My 2005 S60 2.5 T AWD is blowing a lot of smoke. It has my mechanic confused and unable to determine what is causing it let alone fix it?!
Car was fine until he serviced it! Oil and filter change plus new timing belt/ water pump. Blew no smoke and used minimal oil in past 7 months prior.
Now on startup car is fine, after a few minutes starts to blow smoke and when fully warm stops!
I have tried to warm the car up first, blows no smoke at all while idling warming up, but billows smoke when driving off under load.
Car is pretty much undriveable like this, this morning was quite bad and as yet has not stopped blowing smoke.
Car is also harder to start since he has worked on it - rarely starts first time.
Mechanic says he has cleaned all the breather pipes.
Help please
Thanks Adam
Edit: Had new turbo fitted last year prior to purchase, this all checks out to be fine.

what color is the smoke? Are you seeing any loss of coolant or increased oil consumption?
If its only a black puff at start up, it could be a leaky injector. Do all the plugs look tan color or is one (or more) of them oily black?

Blue and burning lots of oil.
No smoke on startup or after warm. Plugs are ok, although may well be oiled after this mornings run....
I will have good look over the weekend, just got the car back yesterday from mechanic.
Thanks

burning oil can mean bad rings (compression test done yet?), leaky valve seals (usually shows up with a puff of smoke on start up after the oil drips in over night), turbo seals, PCV system (is your MAF and throttle body intake clean or oily?) or a head gasket/cracked block or head (usually you'd get some oil/coolant mixing here). From what you've noted, I'd start with a compression test to rule out rings then I'd be looking into the turbo seals as a possible cause.
Car blows no smoke on startup, valve stems seals therefore should be fine. Oil burning / smoke is an intermittent problem, this would rule out rings too.
The last 2 days car has blown no smoke.
Turbo was new 7 months ago and all seals/ etc are fine.
A blown seal or gasket would lead to a constant burning of oil/ blowing smoke, as it is only intermittent it is causing confusion.
If the PCV system is faulty/ blocked/ etc would it cause these symptoms (the system looks overly complex?!)?
Car typically drives for 5 minutes and then starts to blow smoke which then stops about another 5 to 10 minutes, although no everyday??!!
Thanks

So to test for the PCV a few things - open up the intake by the MAF and see if its clean or oily (meaning if oil is getting into the intake to burn, its probably coming from the PCV). You can also try the "rubber glove" test where you put a latex rubber glove (like an MD's glove). If it inflates you have too much pressure (bad)... Can't really explain the intermittent nature other than to think it may be temperature related... maybe the air preheat path is pulling some oil in??
Thanks,
Weirdly car has been fine for the past 3 days!!?? Maybe something had shaken loose or settled down some other way!! Very odd but I will keep monitoring it.
Where would this glove go exactly?
Cheers

I did the glove test and there was a little bit of inflation (hardly any really) with engine warm but when cold it stood upright, not to the extent that it is going to fly off or anything. Something is therefore wrong with the PCV system.....
