Default S60 Buying Advice

OK - I'll confess that I am a total Volvo newbie, so I am here to learn.

I am looking at a used S60 as a daily commuter for my son to travel back and forth from his engineering classes.

This is the beast I am looking at: 2005 Volvo S60 Sedan | used cars & trucks | Charlottetown | Kijiji

Does anyone have any "been there - done that" advice before I make the move? What should I watch out for? And what mileage have you been averaging?

Any and all words of wisdom would be most welcome.

In general a maintenance history is highly desired. Volvos are on a 10 year / 100K mile timing belt schedule so a 2005 may be due. Was the car getting synthetic oil? (good for VVT gears which can clog up). Take a peek inside the fill cap - you should see some staining but zero gunk. In general, you can get a shop to do a full inspection for about 1-1 1/2 hour's labor, well worth it if you are not a DIY fixer.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Having driven Toyotas exclusively for the past ten years, Volvos are uncharted territory for me. Your advice is very much appreciated and if it passes initial inspection, it will be going to a garage for a complete once over.
