S60 D5 Auto Low MPG

I have recently changed from a 2007 S60 185 D5 Manual to an S60 185 D5 Auto, on the manual I was averaging 40mpg, with the auto I'm lucky to get 30mpg is this normal?

I wouldn't know on a diesel but I get 22mpg or so with my gasoline 2.5T Automatic. I do a moderate mix of freeway with that as well.
