S60 D5 Clutch Change
Dear All,
I'm new to this forum but I can't see any threads regarding changing the clutch or even gearbox removal for a 2002 S60 2.4 Diesel.
In fairness, the car is 15 years old and has done 220k miles, so not griping.
Clearly, the obvious symptom is over-revving in 5th gear, if you push it hard it will slip in 4th too, but I did notice a month or so ago that the tick-over have become a little lumpy which makes me think that the DMF must have seen better days too.
Any tips out there? Is it a difficult job, do you have to drop the subframe, don't bother, leave it to a professional?!
TBH it has been one of the best cars I have ever had, so it would be sad to see her go but.......
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Austin

You can DIY. The Volvo procedure is to remove the transmission out of the LH side of the vehicle by lowering the LH side of the subframe and then lowering the engine/transaxle assy as a unit.
We do this on the ground as trying to remove the transmission on a lift is a good way to drop it or injure someone. We let the LH side of the subframe hang down to the floor then put a flat board under the oil pan and transaxle. We slide the transaxle right off the engine after unbolting a lot of things.
Work safe!!!

Hi Tony,
Thanks for this. Fortunately, I have a 2001 Range Rover which I'll use until Spring. Plus, I have a Triumph Stag in one side of the garage and I'll need to clear the other side to do this work.
Do you remove the LH Driveshaft completely or just pop it out of the transmission?
