S60 oil change problems
I'm trying to change the oil on my 2004 S60 2.5T and cannot get the drain plug removed. Does anyone know exactly what size bolt this is? 16mm is too small but 17mm seems just a bit too big. Also, is this possibly a reverse threaded bolt? This thing won't budge at all. Thanks for your help.

when I got my car the po had been taking it to Volvo for oil changes and I thought the pan would break before that plug finally came out and was really surprised the threads did not come with it, use a good 6 point socket or box end wrench(even if you have to go buy one, you do not want to round off the corners) and a pipe for leverage. The oil filter housing was equally overtightened....good luck, and make sure that as you lay under there that you are turning the correct way...

thanks for the input guys. I ended up using vice grips and a hammer to get it off and then just replacing the plug. It was pretty much rounded off, culprit being the oil change place I had used before and their subsequent laziness (using an impact wrench to remove and replace the plug). I guess that's one way they can stay in business is if they are the only ones who can open up your oil pan...

I'm going to keep looking on the forums, but in case I can't find an answer . . . how do I get an overtightened oil filter cover off my '01 Cross Country? I can't get my filter wrench inside there, or anything else that I think may help - there's just not space. Is there a specific wrench that fits over the whole thing? Any input would be really helpful, folks. Thanks!

fcpgroton has many oil filter wrenches that you might want to consider if you are going to be doing your own oil changes...hope this helps!

i would steer clear of universal style oil filter wrenches- what you need is this:
http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S60/Tool...p-74-732-2606/
i got a real nice one from my snap-on retailer made of aluminum for $20 and it fits perfect. i have since used it on customer vehicles, anything from an s40 to xc90. this is the tool to have!

actually if you click on s60 on the left is shows the volvo cap wrench or you can click on this short cuts: http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...29++2001-2010I
I would never suggest a universal one, I would however recommend using one of our sites sponsers!

take a look at www.ipdusa.com/default.asp? Most Volvo require a special wrench that fits the Oil cup.I had this issue on my S60 just spent the $20 or so that the wrench cost.Made my life much easier.

As to oil filter I used an old no handle/band type KD that took a 3/8 drive with a short extension and ratchet. This worked OK, but only 3/4 turn at a time.
With drain plug I did not remove as suctioned the oil out thru the dip stick opening. My concern here is the plastic tube -- what if it breaks off -- anyone recommend a good solid reliable tubing that is perhaps USA made.
Thanks in advance.
