Welcome to the forum. I use Quaker State Full Synthetic in my cars. Most around here will recommend synthetic, just the names will change (Mobil 1, Castrol, Pennzoil, etc.)

 

I have a 2001 S60 non turbo & I bought it when it had 97,000 miles in april 2007.. It now has 105,000 miles. It was using regular oil when I bought it & I still use regular oil. the only difference is that I use Castro GTX 5w30 during the fall & winter months & 10w30 during the spring & summer. I also change my oil myself before 3000 mile intervals. I use Mobil1 on my S40 because it is a turbo & alternate between 5w30 & 10w30 as the temperature changes. If yours is a turbo its better with synthetic but I guess it's your decision because of the high mileage of your car. Take note that many people have complained that they start to use special "High Mileage" oil in their cars then noticed their gaskets started to leak. What did the previous owner use? Do you see sludge buildup? If the previous owner used dino oil & you see sludge, & want to switch to synthetic, try using Penziol High Mileage. Many people claim it does a good job as far as removing sludge. Use Penzoil for a while then when the sludge situation has gotten better, switch to synthetic. Bottom line is it's your call & synthitic gives the best protection. good luck
