Default S60 questions

Hey guys, new here and brand new to Volvos. I live in a small town, full of ricer civics, golfs, RSX's, etc. I don't want to be another civic in my town and I have always liked the more "luxury" look rather than sporty. I've been looking into S60's and have found tons of great deals lots with low mileage. I work at a shop and a mechanic there owns two Volvo's (01 S60 and 02 S40) and he says he loves them. He goes on about how comfortable they are, reliable, fast to an extent, and just overall he has great things to say about them. I am a young kid and this will be my second vehicle so I want to get something I will enjoy and like. I own an 03' Escape right now and it's on it's way out. I remember the mechanic saying something about changing the timing belt at 170,000 km? I may be wrong but I thought that's what he said. The nice thing is if I buy it I can get him to check it over, see if anything needs to be changed, etc. I will be buying one with around 115,000 km on it which I realize is a bit high but I don't drive a lot and it's in my price range. I'm looking at 01-03 models which again I know is old but that's the years he has and he's had no problems with them. What S60 model has the 247 HP engine? Most people posting online just put 5 cylinder turbo engine. Just looking for some advice from you guys, I really want this S60 they're beautiful cars inside and out, plus that turbo engine is a nice add-on!

Thanks guys.

Hey there.
Most S60's are turbo; however, the base model is not and it is very simple. There are 2 turbo models, the 2.4t and the T5. the T5 has the 247hp and a 2.3 engine. The 2.4T is basically a low pressure turbo 200hp but im not really sure on the HP. T5's are hard to find. I used to owned one and it was an amazing one. the 2.4t has smaller rims and some of them have fog lights and some other dont. it just depends on the option the car has. hope this helps.

The one I'm going to look at is a T5. I realize maintenance parts will be a bit more expensive than what I'm paying now but I've heard volvo parts are really not all that expensive. Do they require premium gas? Is 2001 too old of a car? The one I'm looking at has 115,000 km on it which fits my budget. I don't drive a whole lot

Well for the parts they are not that bad at all. You can use FCPeuro.com, ebay, they are really easy to find and cheap too. Check that the timing belt has been changed and for the turbo check if it has no bluish smoke coming from the tailpipe, that is an indication that the turbo is bad. I would put premium, i always use premium on a turbo car. If you are good on fixing stuff yourself you will save tons of cash on labor.

It does not require premium.
