So I was looking at an 02 T5, manual.
Yes I know it's older and plenty of miles on it but it would save me money.

Now on that topic..... Money.

In gears 2 3 and 4 the car makes a squealing noise, very faint though. Once in 1st or 5th, the noise is gone.
The guy said he had a mechanic look at it and he said it was a bearing and won't cause any problems. I find that hard to believe.

So I ask to you experts. What does this sound like or could be?
Should I stay away?

P.S. Yes I did try to search and didn't find anything pertaining to this squeal or whine style noise, I did see ticking and clicking is all.

 

i have a similar issue with my s60 it just started happening but its a quiet clicking noise in 2nd 3rd and 4th gears i have a little over 200k km on it and it just recently started making this noise in the last week or so if there is any advice on what it could be any help would be great, because i have searched around for this and have found nothing. i suspect it has to do with the gearbox or the transmission but if its only happenning in 2,3,and 4th gear why isnt it doing it in first or fifth???
