Default S60 turbo

Hi guys my roommate just bought a 2002Volvo S60 turbo and was driving it and the radiator hose came loose and started running hot and towed back to the house. I'm looking at it and engine will not turn over the starter just groans when you try to start it and it's will not turn the engine over . It cranked with no problem before it ran hot so how can I find out make sure that the motor has seized up or could it be timing chain skipped you know and it out of timing but I find that hard to believe. So that's why I joined and I'm talking to you guys I really need some help here thank you

For what it's worth, the engine has a timing belt rather than a chain, but the car overheating wouldn't really affect the belt. The easiest way to check your situation would be to first check the dipstick make sure your oil is clean and doesn't have any coolant in it. After that I would pull the spark plugs and make sure there's no coolant or anything in there. That's the least amount of work to see whats going on. Did the car get very hot or were you able to pull over as soon as it happened? If the car got too hot it may be toast. You can also throw a socket on the crank pulley on the passenger side and slowly turn it clockwise by hand to test for any interference.
