Default smoke out of tailpipe when idle

2001 s60 2.4t
smoke from the tailpipe at idle. seems like oil... white smoke, not sweet smell, with dark brownish liquid exhausting. how does this occur and probable causes??
need more info?? let me know...
but for now this is what led to this...
please dont get mad at me for this, but... i waited a little too long to change the oil. when i got to it, i noticed sludge in the oil filter cap. lots of sludge... at least 1/8" thick. anywhoo..
changed oil, changed spark plugs, but noticed still smoking. i goto local autozone, talk with the rep for awhile and he suggests using seafoam. so i add to oil, 1/3 of bottle. start up with lots of smoke and have to stop because im afraid the fire department is gonna show. so thats where i am...
PLEASE HELP!!!

sea foam SHOULD smoke.

Your head gasket is probably shot.

How long between oil changes?

i usually change every 3k miles. its been 6-7k since i last changed.
i started it up again this afternoon and let it smoke for about a minute and noticed something coming from the tailpipe. looks like oil... but thinner.

He's right. Sounds like your head gasket needs to be replaced. You have a leak and the coolant is mixing with the oil and creates the brown sludge. You should get this fixed asap!

yup - 7k for these cars if you are using synthetic oil is just fine.

Your head gasket is shot and the sludge is from what Steve described above.

Get it done ASAP

i was thinking turbo charger problems. either way, both serious issues.

miles?

6-7k on one oil change wont harm the turbo unless you are not using synthetic.

blown turbo does not make sense for your symptoms.

+1 one what Bender wrote. Maybe the Turbo is shot but i'd have them check your head gasket at the same time. I'd put money on it.

failed turbo would be massive loss of power, a rattling sounds under the hood, and burnt oil, but not sludgy oil.

that said sludgy oil could result in a failed turbo

Smoke out of the tail pipe while car is idle usually means burning or burnt oil. Try to check engine seals and manifold gaskets. Or it may be worn piston rings.
