Default Power Locks gone crazy...

About an hour ago while I was driving home, the power locks would not stop locking and unlocking! It freaked me out. I pulled into a parking lot to shut the car off and took the keys out thinking it would stop but it wouldnt....I played with the remote thinking that a button was stuck but that wasnt it either. it just kept on going. So I pulled into a pepboys to ask for help thinking it was a fuse that was blown and one of the techs wiggled the battery and it stopped. Now the driver side powerlock is dead, but the others work..... I also noticed my alarm light isnt blinking either...

Does anyone know what happened or how this can be fixed? Im a lil upset because now I have to stick the key in just to open up the driver door.

ETA: Its a 2001

Sounds like the driver door latch assembly just went bad.

Have the codes pulled first, even if the MIL is not lit. (You could get the basic codes pulled at no charge by Autozone); if there is something proprietary, then you may need to see a Volvo dealer.

The door latch/lock assy is fully operational, so long as you can open and close the door with the key.

I would not assume anything expensive upfront: If 'wiggling' fixed something, it may just be a wiring problem (like poor contact)...
Good luck!

It might also be the drivers door module.
You will need to have Volvo or a Volvo specialist pull the codes for the drivers door.
The latch can still be bad as well. Just because the key works it does not make it not bad. There is micro switches and plastic parts in there that go bad.

It might very well be a latch issue.

If the KEY wont work in the door, it has to be a problem with the latch or locking mechanism. You may have to check around for some better prices.

ok i wasn't sticking the key in all the way. it works.

I gave up. i pulled the front door modules fuse and it has stopped. The problem is so annoying. The locks start acting up when driving and does it the whole ride. i know it has something to do with the driver door lock which doesn't respond to the remote. (If I use the remote, it sets the locks off instantly).

ETA:

So what steps should i take? I found a dealer that said if I get parts they will just charge about 200 and change for labor and software download.

With the fact that the lock on the driver side wont respond to the remote, is that technically my issue?
Because I dont want to buy a new door module and that's not my issue, although I noticed that I cant roll down the back windows.

It really could be either one. I am betting more on the module. But it would be nice to see what codes are in the module.

This stuff is crazy. It wont belong before they install a metal plate in our head and code it when we buy a car. They will give us a key but we wont know what it's for.

I have heard of people that lost control of their tv set and when asked if it works with the buttons on the set they did NOT know, didn't even try it. Work with me people.

It could be as simple as a software update. If the tech wiggled the battery terminal while the car was running or within 60 seconds of shutting it off he may have wiped the drivers door program.

The original cause is a different storey. Did yo notice if anything else was flicking on and off when the doors were locking and unlocking. Wondering if the loose terminal was the original cause which really is a nothing but it will mess up software to some of the functions.

Just curiuos when you use the lock button inside the car does the drivers door lock and unlock? If it does nothing there is no power to it. If thats the case try wiggling the wires that pass through the door jam to the door and flick the switch at the same time.

Jim
