Squeal That Wont Go Away
Hey guys Im at college now so I havent had much time to work on my car but I am still having this high pitched squeal/whistle on start up and acceleration.
What I have done:
Checked exhaust and welded up leaks
Sprayed most intake pipes with carb cleaner while running - no difference
Changed timing and serp belt + idle and tensioner pulley on the timing belt
Pulled out dip stick to check if its PCV and still no difference (no smoking dip stick problem)
Just curious if you guys would know anything else to do, thanks in advance!

it is very possible that it could be one the the pulleys used by your timing belt...I had a squealing noise, I found out that the idler pulley bearings had gone, not turning to help out the timing belt but was responsible in the squealing sound. It did not happen all the time, it came and went but when I figured out what was causing the noise I change the timing belt(not knowing if any damage had been done caused by the idler pulley being froze) I also changed both the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley....I bought the kit from FCP GROTON and got the life time warranty....do me a favor and repost upon your findings take a look at your timing componets and see if you could have an issue the the tensioner or the idler pulley having gone bad, good luck and look forward to your reposting!

If you changed everything in the path of you timing belt, i.e. idler and tensioner roller, maybe it's something in the path of the serpentine belt. You can take the serpentine belt off and start the car to see if the sound leaves. I have seen, heard alternators squeel for months.
I did change the idler and tensioner on my timing belt, they said to do it at every timing belt change. I also did take my serp belt off and drove around the block and it still squealed as it did before. Thanks for the help though
how long ago did you change the timing belt, idler pulley and the tensioner pulley? it is possible that one of your pullies is bad....does it sound like it could be coming from that area? just because you change the parts out doesnt mean you didn't have a bad pulley...while I am not saying 100% that is your problem tell us how long it has been since you changed out those parts, and listen by the timing belt cover you will be able to tell just like I did that it had to be related to the timing componets....please let us know your findings. I know first had what it's like to get a bad idler pulley and it slowly goes bad which required me to change the pullies again in addition i played it safe and change the timing belt!
I apologize for not putting this in the original post but yes I did do the water pump while doing the timing belt change, this whole change (timing + serp belt, idler and tensioner on timing belt, water pump) was done about two months ago. I also have my check engine light on with a p0420 code saying catalyst system is below threshold. the only reason I bring this up is becuse someone mentioned that my exhaust manifold gasket could be causing the squeal and check engine light.
