Default Tires

I have a 2002 s60 AWD. I am tired of replacing the Perilli P6 tires on it. I called the local Volvo dealership and asked them for any alternative tires. The only ones they said would work on my s60 were Kumho tires. I looked up several reviews on them and they are not highly rated. I am looking for a good all season tire which handels snow well. The current tires are 235/45 R17 94V. Would the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S work. They are reated well on Consumer Reports.

YES they are a good alternative to the P6.Any other and you will get the dreaded tire rub that most guys that use performance tire get.

what was the problem(s) with P6 and how often did you have to replace them? I had them on my other car (not an AWD) for awhile and had no problems other then towards the end they became a bit noisy (actually more then a bit)

The front tires are worn out before 15000 miles.

Did you mean the Michlin or the Kumho are good tires?

Whoever it was at the dealer that told you that the ONLY tires that can work on your car are Perilli and Kumho tires is a complete idiot.

Any tire will work on your car. You just need to stay within or close enough to spec for load bearing and to keep yourself from getting any wheel rub. On my S60R, I've ran Toyo's Proxes 4's and T1-R's, Falken's and currently on Bridgestone potenza RE-11's. I got slight wheel rub with 235/40/18 tires, went back down to 225/40/18 and wheel rub is gone.

Take your car into a Les Schwab, Discount Tire or whatever tire shop that you have around your area and get tires through then.

Get a set of Conti DWS and do not look back, look at tirerack for the glowing reviews. I got a set and LOVE them over my old Mich. Exalto A/S.

I got B.F. Goodrich All-terrain TA's a year ago. Really fine ride now they are broken in. But, not great wet traction. Guess it depends where you live. Me, Pac NW. This sucks.

Also living in the rainy PNW, I've had GREAT results with my Toyo T1-R's and the Potenza RE-11's.
The tires are a little more expensive but it's completely worth it!!!

gary what "local dealer" in lancaster did you visit? i work at a local tire dealer and could help you out...i assume you mean stadel?

*edit* here is my recommendation:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...rk=1&x=12&y=16
i run them on every car i own and they make any car a tank in the snow. cheap and made with bridgestone technology- the perfect combination...

Stadel was the dealership I called. They gave me no other alternatives than Pirelli or Kumho. When I asked them about Michelin or Continental they had no advice. I ended up buying a set of Continental DWS. I only have 200 miles on them but so far they are handling the wet weather well. Will see what happens when the snow comes.

Excuse my ignorance. But what is "wheel rub"?

Wheel rub in this case is referring to the tire rubbing along the inner side of the wheel well. Say if I make a left turn and turn and steering wheel to full lock, my right wheel will rub on the inside of the tire. There is a metal plate that the tire rubs against.

Wheel rub can also be described when the tire will rub against the fender. You'll get this with a lot of lowered cars especially if there going for the very flush look with no gap.

Just to make it "fair" to your new tire test, make sure you maintain at least Volvo recommended tire pressure. I see so many tires worn out on the outer edges it's not even funny.
