I have carried two kayaks on my luggage rack but as I get older (70 yrs old) I appreciate a motorized boat. Was wondering if I added a trailer hitch would I be able to pull a small/medium size boat (2016 Volvo S60 T5 Premier). Anyone else using their S60 to take a boat to the water?
What size boat are you considering? Total package would weigh? And how far would you tow it? IO or outboard, Fish, ski, surf? I've always been reluctant to suggest/encourage my customers to use their Volvo to tow a boat. Have had to replace too many transmissions.
With gear and fuel you might could get near 2800 pounds for that setup. Volvo suggests that car can tow 3300 pounds - when brakes are installed on the trailer. I also wonder how easily that FWD car would pull a 3000 pound boat out of the water. Years ago I had a friend that would tow his 18ft outboard with his Peugeot 604, a 3000 pound car with no brakes on his trailer.
