I'm sorry - but you probably do not need 4 new tire sensors. Order and replace them if you wish. Then perhaps you will find the real problem, ($$$ wasted later)
What exactly is your "system malfunction" warning? What codes are stored? (you could simply have a bad antenna!)
Thanks for the reply error says upon start up tire pressure system service required it came on right after I ran over what appeared to be an empty bottle of water on the highway- so just assumed it damaged something - certainly do not want to waste $$ so if you have any thoughts - would be very appreciated of your assistance- thank you
error says upon start up “tire pressure system service required “
My 2015 xc70 had that error message, and later the remote range went down to not working.
I replaced the antenna located above the headliner in the middle of the car. That solved the tire pressure system messages and restored remote range. You have to drop the headliner partially to get to it. Same part is used in many Volvos (with several part number changes), I got a used one from my local Volvo junkyard.
Since you asked, your car uses the 433 Mhz sensor. Pretty sure the car is smart enough to tell you which wheel is low on pressure - so as hoonk noted, its not likely that you have an issue with all four in-wheel sensors which leads you to the receiver as the most likely cause. If you had a problem with one sensor, I'm guessing the system would ID that wheel. I have the in-wheel sensors in my 2012 VW and have not had to replace batteries etc - the only servicing to consider from time to time is to clean/replace/tighten the metal valve stems (say when you do a winter tire changeover or when you are getting new tires mounted.) Plus the VW is nice enough to let the heads up display show me the PSIs for each wheel. Note its not as accurate as a hand held tire guage so you still should check tire pressure regularly.
