Default Tranny dipstick malfunction?

The gearbox on this volvo was acting up, so i checked the fluid (in park and running, the gearbox was hot) and it looked like it was twice as high

as it was supposed to be. So i drained a quart out and checked it again, and it hadn’t changed. so i drained as much as i could out, and the fluid level has only gone down 10mm or so, and its still way above the hot level. and of course when i turn the car on, it tells me there’s no oil pressure.

so now i can’t drive the car because i don’t have any way to measure the fluid i put back in. is there any other way to check the level?

If this is a 2001-2007 a transmission drain and fill takes usually 3.5 quarts. (please use the correct fluid, not a generic one that "says it will work"!)

But - How does the car tell you there is no transmission oil pressure?

The car can tell you if there is no engine oil pressure - so did you possibly drain the engine oil?

Although it's not really funny I have to admit that made me laugh. Some people should leave their car alone and not mess with it. Like my neighbor that decided since he had 200 miles on his brand new Jeep you should change the spark plugs and proceeded to strip the threads out of the aluminum head. Sometimes all you can do is just shake your head... I guess we all have to start learning somewhere! I just don't remember it being that expensive back then...
