Default Tranny problem

So today I was driving on the highway today and all of a sudden the "service transmission" light came on. I came to a stop and from acceleration if felt VERY sluggish but fine once it was moving.

It was dark so i couldnt check fluid but i am planning on doing that first thing tomorrow. Where is the fill up for the tranny? i know where the dip stick is.

So initial guess... am I screwed or could this be a valve or software?

it all depends what the fluid looks like....black and burnt, it's toast. but if the fluid is ok, could be a solenoid or software issue.

it's a good start. start the car go through the gears and then check the fluid on the dipstick. if it's black and burnt your toast, if not. take it to a dealer and get the code checked out.

The sensor should be mounted in the top of the transmission.

Maybe but not sure.
Look for a sensor looking thing mounted in the top with a plug coming off of it. About 8 to 10 inches back from the PNP switch.

Not exactly which sensor the code refers to.
I list 3 different sensors on the transmission.
1. 9495031= Tachometer sensor
2. 9495008= Vehicle speed sensor
3. 8636440= Combined input and output sensor. (look like a Y from the plug to 2 sensors)

Hopefully this will help some.

Did they tell you the code at all?

Hopefully I will remember to look at work to convert the code to Volvo code. Then I can tell you which one it should be.
