Default Transmission help! 2002 AWD AW 55-50 geartronic

First, thanks for all the help so far!

I have an S60 AWD 2002 10300 miles. The transmission has a 4 to 5 second delay and harsh engagement when parked and shifting from reverse to Drive. Not all the time, but most of the time when the car is warm and has been idling for a minute or two. The car has also had many shift flares from 2nd gear to 3rd gear.

So far the indy shop has flashed the tranny. A previous shop, the dealer, (who sold me the car), replaced the top engine mount and flushed the transmission. They did over fill it. When overfull, the tranny fluid was bright red. The indy shop removed some of the fluid, and I checked it yesterday and it was no longer red, but red-brown. I have driven the car about 60 miles since picking it up from the indy shop and so far no shift flares.

I bought this car on February 28th for my son who is coming back from overseas in June. He spent his last dollar on the car. Being in the Marines, he doesn't make that much money. There's only about 3 weeks left on the warranty.

I think that I should insist that the B4 Servo cover and the dog bone transmission mount be replaced before insisting that the valve-body be rebuilt. what do you all think? Again, thanks for the input so far. it has been invaluable.

A sad Eric.

Make sure that the "stop neutral feature" has been turned off (with the latest tranny software update). Only 2001 and early built 2002 came with the stop neutral feature and the bad B4 servo cover.

So the way to go with these trannies:
remove stop neutral feature(dealer only)
refresh the fluid,
replace B4 servo cover with new design(inexpensive),
replace tranny torque mount if broken,
install magnefine tranny filter

If all these don't help and tranny continues to deteriorate, then the tranny internals are toast and a new valve body won't save it, you'll need a volvo tranny rebuild.

Doing all of the above recommendations will improve dramatically how the tranny shifts (it won't shift perfect), but it will shift good with occasional hiccups, and can last another 50K -75k miles with fluid refreshes every 25k miles.

This is all good advice and 100% correct.
