Default Transmission Problems

Hi

I am driving a 2001 S60 2.0T (FWD) and recently discovered a new problem. In the mornings, when I engage the auto transmission to D, it takes like 2-3 secs before it will engage with a jerk. Someone I know told me that this is a common problem with the s60 and has to do with a sticky/faulty valve body. Anyone can help?

Thanks
Hansolo

Yes it is a common problem with the S60's.It could be as easy as a software download. It could also be the valve body.Is the car still under warranty? If so I would take it to the dealer and complain. It could also have something to do with the nuetral control function. In that case they would download software to remove that function.

Hi Tech

Thanks. The car is not under warranty and I already had the neutral control removed and the software reset. After the reset, it was fine but then the problem came back. If it is the valve body, is that going to lead to bigger problems and if so, how soon shall I fix it.

Thanks.

I would have it fixed soon could lead to more bigger problems. That is about the only part the dealer replaces they dont rebuild transmissions.A new trans is about $2000.00 plus the labor to install it.
GOOD LUCK let me know what happens.

Hi Tech

I've recently got a new problem. The last couple of days, the transmission started to slip and the car became sluggish even though the engine revved hard. This disappeared when I stopped the car and restarted. I'm deciding if I should repair or get rid of it. Is this already a sign of more than the valve body fault already? How extensive could the problem be and will it be OK if I fix the valve body?

Replacing the valve body should fix it.I cant say 100% that it will fix it but it should.Do you have any extended warranty?

No. Can you sort of explain why this is happening apart from the delayed trans engagement? That I understand is because the valve body is sticky and thus the pressure required to engage is insufficient or something like that?

You pretty much have it already. The valve body controls fluid pressure to the gears and if something is weak or not working properly the pressures will be off. These transmissions are very picky about pressures. You can thank GM for that.

So without the pressure the gear is slipping? This part I can't grasp???

Yes with out pressure it will slip just like if it was low on fluid causing low pressure.

I believe it is because the computer is trying to do a self test to see if the fault is still there.

Maybe not rite away but all the soleniods get tested while driving. If it then acts up there is still a fault.

I know it doesn't go away for long. I have accepted the fact that there is a fault.[&o]
So when I restarted and it went away, so fluid has then flowed in and the pressure was normal after the restart (at least until it acts up again)?
