We are in the process of selling out 2001 XC70 due to the always famous 2-3 shift flare. It's unfortunate because the car is showroom condition and the only thing wrong with it is a fatal transmission issue (we all know the cost of a new trans.) I tried everything in the book i.e. B-4 serv and software update. SO.... we are now looking at a very nice 2008 S60. I believe this care has the same transmission; being an 08' have the transmission shift flare issues been resolved at this point? Is this a drivetrain that I can now have faith in with 110,000 miles? Any issues I'm overlooking?

are you looking at an AWD s60 or FWD? The FWDs have a totally different transmission and are not problematic per se.

 

It is just a FWD...which I prefer.

 

Generally, no. The 01 to 03s had most of the issues, at least in my experience. The AWD isn't totally different than the FWD, but either one is rather reliable.

 

Great, thanks for the info. I just wasn't sure if it had a good chance of developing the same issue. I'm not even upset about our current car just totally disappointed because it is perfect in every way...except a shot tranny.
