Transsmision flush??
Hi:
1. My '02 S60 has 101,000 mil. Can I do a transmission oil change??? And how I can chek if the oil is brown or smells bad??
2. My trunk doesn't open!! With the remote control nothing. I chek all fuses and are ok, but nothing. I press the button in the trunk, nothing. And I turned on and off the valet lock on the dash and the problem still going. What's happening???

On the 02 models it should still have a dip stick. If it does it is a little yellow stick around 3-4 inches long, and hard to see if you don't know where to look.
If you look around your license plate light there should be a plastic cover that you can remove and stick a key in to unlock and open your trunk. Probably has a bad actuator on the latch.

I have done 100s of trans "flushes" on cars with really dark fluid and haven't had any issues. Every once and a while you my get a car return with a minor issue that just requires so extra trans additive. If you have never done a flush and it's over 100k I would strongly urge you to do so. Would you rather keep running dirty fluid that will for sure cause damage long term or flush it with clean and be fine with a very slight risk?
If your S60 has a very short yellow dipstick that is slightly hidding and real close to the bell housing, your car requires synthetic volvo trans fluid!! It is $20+/quart and usually does not need to be flushed. DO NOT FLUSH IT WITH STANDARD ATF!!!! You'll be needing a new trans shortly after.
I agree with Dealer_Tech, depending on the trans, they take different fluids, best thing is call your local Volvo dealer and have them look up the proper fluid. There are some friction modifiers out there that "converts" the fluid to an OE spec but Volvos are very picky about using OEM parts even fluids. I don't agree with the dealers saying the fluid is lifetime fill especially up here in Denver. The mountains are very hard on fluids.
I am trying to get educated on transmission service for my AWD 2.5l with 60k miles. The owners manual suggests that service is NEVER needed since it is a sealed system and synthetic was used in original fill. Local dealer confirms this. Tranny running fine, but ocassionally slips going up a hill or prolonged upgrade. I do not want to make things worse or overthink this, but I want to service properly in order to have for many years and miles. Thoughts?
Like I said I don't buy that, neither does the majority of techs in this industry. We (our shop) recommend flushes depending on color and smell of fluid. Synthetic fluids are suppose to last longer but dirty fluid is dirty fluid. You don't hurt anything by flushing your transmission, just makes your wallet lighter and give you piece of mind.
This trans is a little tricky for your "do it your selfer" basically we hook up a machine to the car at the trans cooler connections and it puts back the same amount it removes.
Sounds like your trans is too far gone but like I said if it needs a trans anyways whats it going to hurt other then your wallet.
