Upper Strut Rod Brace Mounts
I am having an issue with my 2002 S60 2.4T. When I shift from reverse to drive, the engine hesitates for a couples seconds and then shifts into drive with a very small "thud". It also hesitates sometimes on the gas (usually in lower gears). I recently replaced the upper torque rod mount, as the bushing inside was deteriorated. That fixed some of the problem, but I am still having some hesitation in shifting at low gears. I have a feeling that the upper strut brace mounts might be bad or something because when I try to wiggle the upper torque rod, there is quite a bit of play. I know that there should be some play in it, as it is a sort of cushion for the rocking back and forth. I just feel like there is too much play in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I also feel like there is a lack of power leading me to believe that I might be having some sort of problem with my ETM (hence it might need to be cleaned).

This is about the amount of play the engine stabilizer bar should have (Courtesy of ViVA).

I highly recommend the strut bar conversion kit with Poly bushing in the engine mount. Yeah, there is a little vibration but it's not enough to be a nuisance.

+1 on fluid check and also, What kind of shape is the lower transmission mount in? That little guy can make a huge difference.

I have checked the fluid and it isn't low and doesn't seem to be burnt, plus I had the fluid flushed not too long ago. I called the dealership today and they also mentioned that the lower dog bone mount could be the issue or that there is also some type of cushioning pad down below. The guy said that the bushings and such on the upper torque rod don't usually fail, but he didn't see my car or actually drive it so yea. I think first plan of attack is to get it up in the air and check the lower mounts.
Also, pertaining to the upper torque rod. I just gave it a wiggle and it seems to have the correct amount of play, but it seems to loose, if that makes any sense to you. I'm wondering if the bushings in the left and right brackets might be deteriorated.

Those bushings could be bad. One of the first things I did to my car was the conversion kit to make the bar solid in that second picture. It's pretty cheap to do and you'll only get VERY little more vibration in the cabin, and only at idle.
This is exactly the problem that I am having with My son's new (to him) S60 2002 AWD 2.4T. He is in the Marines, and asked me to find a car for him when he ships home. We found the one we bought on line from a used car dealer. Had the car inspected by an independent dealer. Independent noted bad strut, bad sway bar links, but could not replicate the delay in shifting from reverse to drive. Car is back at the dealer for front end work and transmission service...hope they don't screw it up...Feedback please?

I'd like to hear if the work done at the dealer fixed the problem for you. Agree with Manu Noypi that you should flush the fluid and replace. Let us know what happens afterwords and hopefully it will be good news.
Hi Mad Matt, my stabilizer bar has this amount of play and I was wondering if that could be the cause of vibration in the car. I replaced the upper and lower engine mounts and before they got replaced the stabilizer bar could not be moved. Now it is movable and my car vibrates.
