Hi!
I have a 2001 2.0T S60 that lately has been entering limp mode (RPM stuck under 2000 and no power at all. Almost unable to go uphill in 1st gear)
If i turn it off for a few seconds the car returns to normal.
This problem is becoming more and more frequent.
From reading on the forums everyone says it could be the TPS but in my case there is no error message or CEL. It just enters limp mode.
I recently did the oxygen sensor and that cleared a recent CEL so i don't think the problems are connected.
I read the firmware from the TCM with a icaroft reader and i got a Hardware part number 0008644346B, Serial number, and diagnostics part number 09458345A
I would get the car scanned with a tool that can communicate with the modules in the car and not just check CELs. Often there can be codes in the modules that do not trigger a CEL. This can be done either with Volvos VIDA or a higher quality universal scanner
My code scanner is not dice but can give almost all volvo specifc codes.
I'm just wondering if i should just buy the contactless sensor and mod the TPS...
I don't have access to a dice reader anywhere near me.
Try going to the XeMODex web site and read up on their diagnostic tests for a failing ETM. the electronic throttle body in the 2001s are known to be problematic and Xemodex has a rebuild service for about $250 (no dealer programming required).
So my Dice finally arrived.
Was very simple to get working and was immediately able to talk to the car.
I do have some questions. In the Network TAB where all the modules appear, the ECM appears Orange with a message saying not responding, but with my icarsoft reader, i can read and clear errors. Any input on this? is this normal?
Secondly, today i noticed my cruise control can only be enabled during the first few seconds of tuning the car on, after that it turns itself off and i can't turn it on.
And today i checked for errors with the icarsoft and now the error potentiometer number 2 from the throttle module was present and clutch pedal position sensor error.
Is it possible that im assuming a TPS problem but something else could be causing all this?
Since it's an electric throttle body. The cruise control going out because of a TPS fault would make sense. The car wouldn't be able to accurately control/correct speed if it isn't able to monitor throttle position properly. Does your nominal throttle position line up with your actual throttle position values?
With VIDA you can also check / test communication with the units. There's a lot inside VIDA and I wish I could help you navigate the pages step by step but I have not used it on my personal cars nearly enough to keep that knowledge in my head.
Did you check XeMoDeX website about the throttle bodies like mt6127 suggested? They are a great company if you do need to use them for repair.
So today i uninstalled Vida 2015D and installed 2014D instead and I am now able to comunicate with ECM and can read several errors. But now when i'm connected to the car i have a constant relay switching on and off with even timing. I have no idea if that normal but maybe someone can give some input about that.
I also tried getting a sample of the desired throttle position and both sensors position. I did notice that the sampling graphs were substantially slower than when i used Vida 2015D and seemed to cut communications periodically. (Maybe it's related to the clicking relay?)
The desired position is substantially lower than the one measured by the sensors.
I'm completely lost.
So I just removed the throttle body, and to my surprise, the previous owner had already had the TPS moded.
By the looks of it, by actronics.
Any ideas?
Very late reply, but did you figure it out eventually? Lots of people have bad experience with ACTronics rebuilds, I wouldn't be surprised if it failed after a few years.

Yes I did. Replaced the sacer sensor but kept the magnet part and it worked like a charm.
