Volvo S60 non turbo?
Hi S60 guys,
I have a few questions. I found online an 2001 S60 with about 100,000 miles and its a non-turbo. I know some S60s have tranny issues but Im wondering is that ALL S60s or more likely on the turbo T6 models? Also are there any other "monsters in the closet" with the S60 that are common issues?

I can vouch for the non-turbo.
I have a 2002 Non-Turbo that I bought in 2006 with 55,000 miles on it.
It now has 152,000 miles and it still gets 25 miles per gallon in the city with the AC on in South Florida.
I use 87 octane, and change the oil with generic conventional 10w/30 motor oil every 5-6k miles.
Volvo manual says not to change the Transmission oil unless you tow. I don't tow, so I don't change the Transmission oil. 5 speed automatic transmission runs fine.
Only problems thus far are electronic and have nothing to do with Volvo. Replaced Voltage regulator, cabin fan blower regulator, rear o2 sensor, a few bulbs, and cylinder 1 and 4 ignition coils.
In otherwords, the non-turbo is a different breed of the Volvo s60 engines; It requires minimal maintainance, can run on cheap gas, can use cheap oil, yet still gets outstanding gas mileage. That is precisely why I bought it. It's a shame that Volvo dropped it from their lineup.

good to hear. I also believe in non turbo cars, especially Volvo, for longevity purposes and maintenance. I will totally check out this s60 i saw, my 850 is getting rough these days LOL . so you never were effected by the transmission issue?

At 100K.....
Hello, If the trans shifts OK at 100K then it's a good gamble. Have the car inspected by a mechanic and have him pull the trannie drain plug and replace the 3.5 quarts of 3309 which come out. Use Toyata T-IV fluid to replace because it's the easiest way to get the required fluid. Get the price down in the name of the bad trannies. If you can't get this little task done then indeed pass on this car. How much is a 2001 w/100K anyway? Private sale or dealer? Kira
