Default Volvo s60 oil filter (2012)

Hello all. I've found myself in a pickle here. Went to change the oil on my wife's s60 (my first time working on her car). Came to the oil filter housing which I couldn't get off (I know, should have consulted the all knowing you tube first). Rather than breaking it, I filled the motor with fresh oil and left the old filter. I have the socket to remove it on the way, couldn't find a 36 mm locally.

Question is, looks like the filter is mounted above the sump, and removed from the top. Can I replace the filter without draining the oil, or would I be setting myself up for a mess? Thanks.

You can remove the filter without draining the oil.

At this point, my recommendation is to leave the filter until the next oil change. It sounds like you are staying on top of maintenance anyway so just continue.

I would absolutely not leave the filter until the next oil change.

I don't intend to. Much rather be safe than sorry, especially with how easy it is to get to (provided you have the right size socket lol)
