volvo S60 .vs. BMW 530i & BMW 318i
Dear, People
I am new to the forum and have just bought a 2004 Volvo S60 2.5T AWD with all the possible options even the bi-xenons, except navigation. This car is great, and it has a lot of power. However, It has gone in for repairs once last month, and now currently the 48,000km service is being done at a volvo dealer. The first problem I had with the car was a rattling sound coming from the exhaust, the whole exhaust had to be changed (under warranty), and now I have some little problems being fixed at the volvo dealership. I was just wondering, how's the reliablity on these cars when there out of warranty. The currently has 52,000km, but im covered until 160,000km or October 2008, whichever comes first. I have one more volvo at home, which is a 1998 Volvo S70 2.5 SE, excellent car with no major problems. I used to own BMW's before that had a lot of electrical problems, and other problems that put a hole in my pocket book. I was just wondering, how the is volvo s60, especially my model?

If you take care of them, oil changes every 6,000km, and the regular service every 12,000km their bullet proof. Thats how its like with our 1998 S70, it has 250,000km and runs like new still, no problems at all. BMW we owned had problems front and centre. Parts aren't that expensive as BMW. BMW service-$1200, VOLVO Service - $500-$700.

There is absolutely no comparison between a rear wheel drive BMW and a front wheel drive Volvo! They are two totally different autos. So..............if performance AND handling is your forte', then it is the BMW hands down (not a 318i however). The Volvo is fast in a straight line and is a nice solid and safe auto. I truly do not believe that it has any more problems than the BMW (I own both..........BMW's for years). As one of the posters mentioned............service your Volvo and it will treat you well.

I know parts are expensive for Volvo, because I had one for close to 10 years now. The first 6 years, the car was under warranty so everything besides brakes, and other basic things were not covered. The S70 hardly needed anything replaced in its life. once in a while it would have some problems, but not as frequently. I am a very big fan of BMW, thats why I put up with BMW for so long. My volvo went in for service and repairs maybe 2 times a year now because its getting old, and it is driven about 60,000km,but the BMW's I have owned always was in the shop, I mean on a regular basis, I started to know everybody in the service area. Once in while I don't mind paying for expensive repairs but not 10 times a year after the warranty has finshed. I just hope the S60 is as good as my S70.
