Unhappy Water/coolant in transmission

My girlfriend has a 2006 S60 (T5) with 60K miles. She bought the car new from a Volvo dealer. After having her regular indy shop flush and refill the cooling system about 6 weeks ago, she noticed that she continually had to add small amounts of water to the radiator (about a quart per week) although there was no obvious leak or puddle on the garage floor. When she took it back to her mechanic for an oil/filter change she asked him about having to add water to the radiator and told him to check for leaks. It turns out the cooling tank for the transmission had a leak or split and the disappearing coolant was entering the transmission and ATF was entering and mixing with the coolant. End result - installed a new radiator and flushed the transmission. The mechanic told her she should sell the car within the next 6 months, now that water entered the transmission. The transmission performed perfectly both before and after the new radiator (so far). Is the mechanic overreacting? What should I expect? Anyone ever heard of this happening?

If you did the flush on the trans with new oil, you should be okay. The car doesnt have much mileage and its what 5 years old. I think the trans will a resist a trans flush.

Once a while, we do see such reports here. Sometimes it's the engine oil cooling line, other times the tranny.

As long as the tranny did not experience slippage, peculiar behaviour or "Check Engine Light" did not illuminate, I believe not much harm was done to it.

My only question is whether the current tranny fluid is the correct fluid as per the owner's guide (there are a few different fluids and they are not interchangeable). I would also drain & refill the coolant.
