What's missing on this 2005 S60

Went to look at a 2005 Volvo S60 I saw on craigslist. I took a picture of what appears to be a portion of a sensor. Would appreciate if anyone could id it, and tell me why someone would remove it.

That's the switch for the brake vacuum pump. Should be a two pin connector hanging around there somewhere.
