Default Wheel of Misfortune OR Yet Another Spare Tire Thread

Greetings,

The raised floor solution does not do it for me.
Has anyone put a full size spare in the trunk? Pictures are greatly appreciated. How much extra space is lost vs compact Tempa spare?

Do genuine Volvo wheels, sold as an accessory, come with TPMS hardware?

How does one go about getting the car to recognize the new wheel sensor?

What happens if the car is driven with a wheel without TPMS?

Many thanks in advance.

PS: For an S60 T6.

Genuine wheels do not have a sensor when new. If you drive a vehicle without a TPMS sensor you will get the warning light on your dash on. The new TPMS should be programmed when installed. Since you are talking about a spare then I would suggest you get what you want (within your space limitation concerns) and forget about the TPMS issue. The car can only store 4 so you cannot program a '5th' for the spare and the chances are that you will never need the spare. In a pinch, if you install the spare you will get a TPMS light but nothing else. Then you have to deal with the puncture / tire replacement anyways.

I recently got a flat. I was pulling into work and merging left when my rear tire caught the curb ( which many other people have ) and as result my side wall sliced. No repair there. No spare in my trunk. I had my car towed to Volvo dealership, ( free roadside assistance) and $238 dollars later, I have a new tire. I'm thinking I still saved in not buying tire insurance ( $800 ) and this curb damage may not have even been covered. But I'm somewhat satisfied to know that I have an empty trunk for grocery shopping or whatever I need to haul. Just my .02
