Default when to get an oil change?

I am a new owner of an s60 and with all my cars i intend to follow the manufacturers maintenace schedule. However, unlike other cars i have owned, Volvo recommends an oil change (using synthetic) after 7500 miles (when the light comes on for service). This is a bit unsettling for me and doesnt seem right. Even with synthetic oil should likely be changed every 5000 miles (instead of 3000 when using regular) or maybe sooner in warmer weather in the summer.

any opionions or experts?

I usually stick with the 5000 mile interval. I use full synthetic by the way.

Always a lot of opinions on oil.

Can't go wrong with a good synthetic (PP, or Mobil or German Castrol), for 5000 miles. I am sure it's fine for 7500 as well. But for dino oil with a Turbo to go 7500 miles. That would make me nervous.

Personally, I change the oil myself halfway thru the reccommended service intervals, and use synthetic. Then I have the dealer use synthetic also. I realize it's a little overkill, but I feel better this way. I use Mobil 1.
