Mobil 1 Syn.
I'm in San Diego and can't find them here either. I believed it's been banned here in CA by EPA due to some environmental issues. Use the Toyota T IV atf or Amsoil synthetic. They conform to JWS 3309 specs. I researched the trans. requirements of my 03 S60 and the Valvoline MaxLife DEX/MERC atf is suitable for my car. On the back label, you'll see
recommendations on what cars they're suitable for, it says Volvo 1161521
1164540 so I used this brand when I couldn't find the Mobil 1 syn. It's been 10k miles since the atf change and car's running perfect. If u don't
trust the valvoline, use the Toyota T-IV there's a lot of using this on the other volvo forum w/ no complaints.

Please JWS3309 is NOT synthetic
Volvo JWS 3309,
Toyota T IV
MOBIL 3309 ONLY.
I had Valvoline MaxLife used in my 03 S60 AWD and the problem started in about 30 days skipping and hard shifts were first.Volvo stated that synthetic ATF should not be used in Aisin-Warner AT and will Void warranty if still in effect(Valvoline confirmed this).I had to flush trany with 24 quarts to get car running right again.Stick with what Aisin-Warner recommends JWS 3309 the above are the only conventional fluid they recommended. No other. Most guy order it from IPD and they also sell a flush kit. http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-S60/Tran...in/c-1-74-405/

I did a research on Mobil 1 synthetic atf and they do conform to JWS3309 specs. Check it out in the Mobil corp website. I've used this on my 97 avalon for the last 7 yrs. and my 98 S70 and have no prob so far. But now they're not available in CA. Like I said in my previous post, if u don't trust valvoline maxlife for ur car, use other brands. But I would reco Mobil 1 synthetic cuz they have given me no prob.

mobil 3309 is non Syn and ASIN Warners tranys dont like Syn fluid. While yes Mobil Syn meets JWS3309 specs its still Syn and AW seals and filters are not made to with stand the chemicals in Syn fluid. Also Syn gets MUCH HOTTER than conventional fluid.Thats a fact.Cant go wrong with what you are buying.GL
