Welcome to the forum.
Generally, white smoke from the tail pipe is either normal water vapour or coolant entry into the combustion chamber. The latter can be tested by doing a compression test, cooling system pressure test, etc...
As for the tranny, until you can get software upgrade, visit a local AutoZone or other auto parts shops that provide fee OBD-II diagnosis service and pull codes from the transmission ECU. The scanner used at AutoZone may not be able to access the tranny ECU but doesn't hurt to try.
